Balázs János

János Balázs Kossuth Prize-winning pianist is one of the most sought-after and successful pianists, a regular member of the world’s most famous concert halls. He is one of the few artists who is surrounded by the love of the audience and the recognition of the profession.

He studied and graduated from the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music in Budapest. He has worked with renowned artists and conductors such as Mischa Maisky, Tamás Vásáry, José Cura, István Várdai, Charles-Olivier Munroe, Stéphane Denéve, Ksenia Zharko or Gwendolyn Masin. In the 2013/2014 concert season, he won the Rising Star “Artist of the Year” award from artists of 19 countries, which made it possible for him to give concerts (organized by ECHO) in Europe’s most significant concert halls, such as: Concertgebouw Amsterdam | Cité de la Musique Paris | Megaron Athen, | Musikverein | Palau de Musica | Barbican Center | Wiener Konzerthaus | Cologne Philharmonie. Since then, he has enjoyed great success in many concert halls around the world, such as: Teatro Colón Bogotá | Tchaikovsky Conservatory Great Hall, Moscow Royal Conservatory Toronto | Cziffra Chapel, Senlis | Künstlerhaus, Munich | Academy of Music, Great Hall Müpa Budapest etc. In addition, he has appeared in America and Asia’s most famous concert halls. He was invited to teach a masterclass at the Shenyang Conservatory of Music, Hanoi Conservatory of Music, McGill University, Canada. He has performed with the Brussels Philharmonic Orchestra, the Dortmund Philharmonic Orchestra, the Aspen Philharmonic Orchestra, the Hungarian National Philharmonic Orchestra, the Ferenc Liszt Chamber Orchestra, the Óbuda Danubian Orchestra, the Moscow Women Symphony Orchestra and the Dohnany Orchestra of Budafok.

The Liszt, Prima, and Gramophone Award Winning artist has been a part of the Hungarian concert life since he was 16, when he won the Ferenc Liszt International Piano Competition, which was followed by other victories at 5 more major competitions until graduation, including the Cziffra Piano Competition, and numerous awards. He is a teacher at the Snétberger Center. In 2017 he was honored by the Hungarian Academy of Arts with his Music Award, and Poland also recognized his work. He has been a jury member on the talent show “Virtuoso” for two years and most recently on the French Cziffra competition. He gave unique open-air piano evenings called ‘ZEnergia’, in front of the Basilica and here he has provided a lasting musical experience for thousands of people. In 2016, he founded the Classical Music Festival, dedicated to the spiritual heritage of his exemplar György Cziffra. His virtuoso play and advanced piano technique are combined with deep music. He has a special ability to address the audience with his play.
